Setting up Trello

The token needs the read and write scopes and must never expire. It doesn't need the account scope.

What CueLens does in Trello

ActionWhenScope
Creates a card in your list When you report a signal to Trello write
Reads which list a card is in Every 15 minutes, to close signals whose card was moved to the done list read

CueLens doesn't make any other Trello calls.

Requirements

  • The token must never expire. The sync runs on its own every 15 minutes. If the token expires after 1 hour, 1 day or 30 days, the sync stops working without warning.
  • The token's Trello user must be a member of the board that holds both the list and the done list. Trello can't limit a token to one board: the token acts as that user on every board they can open. To limit access, create a dedicated Trello user that belongs only to that board, and generate the token as that user.
  • The account scope isn't needed. CueLens never reads or changes the user's profile or email.

Generating the token

  1. Open the API key page of your Trello Power-Up and copy the API key.
  2. Click the Token link on that page.
  3. Check the consent screen: it should list only read and write access, and say that the token never expires.
  4. Approve it, then paste the API key and token into the Trello settings.

Finding the list IDs

Trello doesn't show list IDs in its interface, but you can read them from the JSON version of any card or board. A list ID is a 24-character code such as 63f1a2b3c4d5e6f7a8b9c0d1.

  1. Open a card in the list. If the list is empty, add a temporary card to it.
  2. In the browser's address bar, add .json to the end of the card's address and press Enter.
  3. Find the idList field (Ctrl+F / Cmd+F) and copy its value.
  4. Repeat with a card from the done list to get the done list ID.

Alternatively, add .json to the end of the board's address and search for the list's name. The "id" field just before the name is the list ID.
